Dracaenas, also known as dragon trees, are native to tropical africa or asia. Their name is derived from the greek word drakaina, meaning female dragon. When the plant is damaged, red resin flows out of the ‘wound’. Known as dragon’s blood, this resin has been used as medicine since ancient times. Today, it is often used in medicines for gastrointestinal complaints and dietary supplements. It can also be found in anti-wrinkle creams: the dragon’s blood is said to have an antioxidant effect that is up to 5 times stronger than vitamin e. The dracaena white stripe has a cool look with its beautiful dark green leaves with lovely white stripes, which give it a special appearance. It is also very easy to look after.
Carethe dracaena does very well in a spot in the (semi-) shade. Also this plant does not need a lot of water. Only water the plant when the soil feels dry. Too much water can cause root rot. This can be recognized by the leaves: brown spots with yellow edges will appear here. Should this happen, it is advised to give less water and remove the brown leaves.
